These terms are an agreement between you and AAK Studio LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company. By creating an account or subscribing, you agree to them and to the privacy policy. If you don't agree, don't use Canvless.
1. Who can use Canvless
Canvless is for current employees of a United States federal, state, county, municipal or tribal law-enforcement agency, including sworn officers and civilian staff such as dispatchers and records personnel. You must verify that status when you sign up, and we may ask you to verify it again at any time. If you retire, resign or are separated, your right to use Canvless ends the same day, whether or not we've noticed yet. Any paid period left is not refunded (see section 3). You must be at least 18.
2. Your account
- One person, one account, one phone. Sign-in is by emailed code and your enrolled device. Don't share codes, recovery codes or your phone.
- Keep your email current. It's how we reach you and how you sign in.
- If your phone is lost or stolen, report it from your account page immediately.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account until you tell us it's compromised.
3. Subscriptions and billing
- Individual subscriptions are sold on this website by AAK Studio LLC and billed through Stripe. The mobile app sells nothing.
- You verify your status before you can pay for anything, so nobody pays and then fails verification. There is no free trial.
- When you subscribe, we charge the plan you chose that day ($3.99 a month or $39.99 a year, plus any tax), and it renews automatically, charging the card on file at the start of each period until you cancel. Before we take any payment, checkout shows these terms and asks you to agree to them, and we email you a confirmation with the price and how to cancel. Cancel any time online from your account page, or by emailing [email protected]; access continues to the end of the period you paid for, and your account is then kept for 90 days after it ends or is canceled (see the privacy policy). We don't give refunds for partial periods, except where the law requires it.
- If a payment fails, your account locks until it's paid. Nothing is deleted right away: your account, pins and history are kept for the 90 days in the privacy policy, and paying in that window reopens it exactly as it was. After that it is removed like any other closed account (your pins stay on the map as "former subscriber").
- If you're on the yearly plan, we email you a reminder 15 to 45 days before it renews, with the price and how to cancel.
- If we ask you to re-verify and you can't, we end your access and cancel your subscription, so you're not charged for time you can't use.
- We may change prices. We'll email you between 7 and 30 days before the new price first applies to you, with instructions for canceling. The new price applies from your next renewal after that notice, and you can cancel before then and pay nothing more.
4. Department plans
An agency may buy a department plan that covers all of its verified personnel. It is a single payment for lifetime access, invoiced to the agency, not to individuals. "Lifetime" means for as long as AAK Studio LLC (or a company that takes it over) operates Canvless, not the lifetime of any person; the plan does not expire or renew. Like any service agreement, this one covers the unlikely case that Canvless is discontinued for any reason. If that happens, we'll give the agency at least 60 days' notice and refund part of the plan price based on how long ago it was bought: 25% within the first year after purchase, 15% in the second year, 5% in the third year, and nothing after that. Members are attested and can be offboarded by the agency's designated admin. Individual subscriptions at that agency stop being charged the day the plan activates; any time you've already paid for simply runs out (you keep access either way) and the overlap isn't refunded. Department plans are governed by the order form and any agreement the agency signs, which take precedence over this section if they conflict.
5. Acceptable use
You agree to:
- Use Canvless only for legitimate law-enforcement work, and in line with your agency's policies.
- Never enter case numbers, incident details, footage, stills, evidence, or victim, suspect or witness information. The product is designed to hold none of it.
- Never enter covert or semi-covert law-enforcement cameras.
- Never bulk-copy, scrape, export, or screenshot for distribution, or otherwise take the map or its notes outside the service. Every view is watermarked and logged.
- Never share access with anyone, including other officers. Every officer gets their own account.
- Only log a "Still here" check when you are physically at the camera.
- Only add camera-owner contact details a business publishes or an owner gave you for this purpose.
- Follow the law while using Canvless, including trespass and traffic laws. Don't enter private property to check a camera without permission or legal authority.
We may suspend or end an account that breaks these rules, and we may tell the officer's agency.
6. What you add to the map
You keep ownership of what you add (or your agency does, where its policy says so). You give AAK Studio LLC a perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store it, show it to other verified subscribers, use it to operate and secure Canvless, and keep it on the map after you leave, because other officers rely on it. If you delete your account, your pins stay under the label "former subscriber". You confirm that what you add is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you're allowed to share it.
7. A notebook, not a record
Canvless is a vendor-held tool for investigators. It is not a records-management system, not evidence, and not a substitute for your agency's procedures. Nothing on the map is verified by us; other officers confirm cameras in person, and a pin can be wrong, stale or gone. Whether a public-records request could reach information held here is a question for your agency's counsel, and we make no representation about it. We do not provide legal advice.
8. Our rights and yours
- Canvless, its software, design and brand belong to AAK Studio LLC. Map tiles and imagery come from their providers under their terms.
- We may change the service. If we remove something that matters, we'll tell you.
- We may update these terms. For a change that matters, we'll email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you keep using Canvless after that date, the new terms apply. If you don't accept them, cancel before then and we'll refund the unused part of any prepaid period.
- You can't transfer your account or these terms to anyone. We may transfer them to a company that takes over Canvless, under the same terms.
- We aren't responsible for delays or outages caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as a failure at a hosting or map provider.
- These terms, the privacy policy and, for department plans, the order form are the whole agreement between us. If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't given it up.
9. Ending the service
You can delete your account in the app or by email at any time. We can end your access if you stop working for a law-enforcement agency, fail to re-verify when asked, break these terms, or if we shut the service down. If we shut it down, we'll give you at least 60 days' notice and refund the unused part of any monthly or yearly period you've paid for. Department plans follow section 4. Sections 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11 survive the end of your account.
10. Disclaimers and liability
Canvless is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise it will be available, accurate or error-free, or that any camera on it still exists or kept footage. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
To the extent the law allows, AAK Studio LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any decision you make based on the map. Our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or $100.
These limits do not apply to liability that the law does not allow a business to limit, including liability for our fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct, or for death or bodily injury we cause, and they do not take away any right you have under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act or any other consumer-protection law that can't be waived. They apply in New Jersey and everywhere else to the fullest extent those laws permit.
If someone else brings a claim against AAK Studio LLC because of content you added or because you broke these terms or the law, you'll cover our reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent your actions caused it. This doesn't apply to claims caused by our own conduct. For department plans, the order form controls instead.
11. Governing law
If you have a problem, email [email protected] first and give us 30 days to try to fix it. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey. Disputes will be heard in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey, and you consent to their jurisdiction, except that either of us may bring a claim that qualifies in small-claims court where you live. There is no arbitration clause and no class-action waiver in these terms. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
